Handcrafted Potato Masher Basket, with handmade soaps, all occasion cards and more.
Don’t you just love this ? That’s a basket hand woven around an antique Potato Masher. You just know some special Granny used that potato masher for years to make some great meals for her and her family.

Just leave an answer to our question for your chance to win.

Because Easter has totally slipped up on us this year, we may not be giving away a basket filled with Chocolate, but we’re definitely giving away a basket filled with love.
This beautifully handcrafted Potato Masher Basket is skillfully made by Mildred Daniels of Virginia. Her family just refers to her as “Granny,” and it’s obvious her talents have been passed down through the family line.
I first discovered “Granny” and her baskets, while responding to a comment that had been left here on Taste of Southern by one of our readers. Deb Girotti is a retired homeschool mom, after 17 years of teaching her four children.
Deb maintains her own website called Mountain Musings and I do hope you’ll visit her site to learn more about this talented family living life in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Her daughter Hannah, operates “Graceful Design Cards.” You’ll find a unique collection of Note Cards, Photography Cards, Watercolor Cards and more, including “Pleasant View Soaps,” a line of handmade cold-process soaps. (They even provided the pictures of the giveaway items above.)
You’ll also find a collection of baskets by “Granny,” in her Etsy shop. All the handcrafted baskets made by Granny are available for purchase online, and you can visit the Etsy Shop by clicking here: Granny’s Basket Shop.
You’ll find some great gift items for yourself, your family, and your friends, at either of the above mentioned websites. I do hope you’ll visit them soon.
I’ve long been fascinated with basket weaving, and must confess I’ve had more than one thought that it might be something that would interest me. Perhaps after I make those fishing rods I’ve been putting off for the past several years, I’ll give basket making a try. I purchased several boxes of supplies for making fishing rods a few years back. They’re still stacked right where I left them when I brought it all home, so don’t hold your breath waiting for me to show you a basket that I just made here on Taste of Southern. They’re all in my “one day” list of things I’d like to do.
Anyway, having viewed the Mildred Daniels Etsy Shop of baskets, I knew right away that one day I’d like to offer one as a giveaway here on Taste of Southern. I asked Deb to put together a gift basket for me, and this is what we’re giving away to one of our lucky readers for Easter.

Happy Easter: I do hope you have a very safe and happy Easter weekend. Little baskets remind me of the biblical story of the little boy with the loaves of bread and the fishes that Jesus multiplied and fed all those people with. Miracles still happen. Each day we breathe is a miracle, and I trust that you’ll remember the true meaning of this Easter season. HE IS RISEN.
Be Blessed!!!
Steve

I’m making a big ham dinner for the family. It’s a tradition in our household.
The ham is made – along with macaroni & cheese with tomatoes, mashed potatoes, baby peas and homemade biscuits from this site – and partially eaten. For the rest of the day, we’ll just relax and enjoy one of the old movies on TV them always show on Easter.
-Attend Church
-Prepare the ham
-Make phone calls to family members from Alaska to Kentucky.
-Praise the Lord and then eat! 🙂
Just stumbled upon your wonderful website. I’m loving all the recipes and have printed several already today. Nice looking basket. For Easter this year I’m helping cook our Easter lunch because my grandmother is unable to do it anymore. It’s a family affair. My daughter who’s just 22 yrs old has even learned to make the dressing. I’m so proud of her. We still eat at my grandmothers house. She just gets to rest and she deserves to rest! I’m looking forward to seeing your “pickle” recipe soon!! Hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter too.
Today I’m cooking ahead for tomorrow – carrot cake, deviled eggs, a casserole. Tonight I will take some time to be quiet and still and reflect on the meaning of Easter. Tomorrow will be Easter breakfast at church, followed by Sunday school and church and an Easter egg hunt. Then back home for ham and trimmings with the family!
Thanks for a lovely giveaway. We are attending church and then going to my mother in law’s for dinner.
We are having a family dinner on Easter. And egg stuff for the kids.
Hi Steve. 🙂 Deb and I have been friends for over 30 years…she and I met when we were both just starting our families and homeschooling…I love her to death! :0) Our Easter weekend will be filled with a Sunrise Easter service at our church followed by a breakfast cooked by the men. 🙂 Then our regular Sunday morning worship service and then on to my Sister-in-laws for a huge family picnic. My family, MY in-laws, MY grandchildren and some friends will all be there. Have a blessed Easter and thanks for the give away!
My husband and I are going to go practice photography, go to a good Friday service, and then a marvelous Easter service. Quite excited. 🙂
This Easter will be spent with family. Twenty-six of us will be hunting Easter Eggs and having dinner!
On Easter, we plan on going to church, and spending the afternoon with family. Happy Easter to all!
Been knowing the Mountain Musing gang for many years. As a matter of fact, I remember when all the Mountain Musing kids were born. One of the best families I have ever known. Everything you see on their blog is for real.
My husband and I will go to church and delight in we have another year to celebrate our Lord’s resurrection. Then probably go out and have lunch at a local restaurant.
Fix a quiet dinner at home. Roads will be full with holiday traffic. Maybe go to the Sunrise Service at the cemetary were parents are buried if weather nice and put flowers on their graves.
Snow is still on the ground in much of the Leelanau County peninsula (northern lower Michigan), so we’ll be dressing warmly for church and will have family and a friend over for a crown roast feast in the late afternoon. Perhaps a little outdoor cleanup where the snow is melting (50 degrees on Easter Day!) before company arrives. Have a wonderful Easter weekend. The gifts are wonderful. Thank you!
We’re planning a quiet weekend. Our 2 year-old twins are old enough to start the Easter egg hunt tradition! 🙂
A quiet Easter with my pastor(husband)and probably my mother. Good preaching, singing and eating.
We’ve been invited over to friends for lunch, after our church service.
Thanks for the chance to win – I came over via Mountain Musings. 🙂

“Cute” definitely applies to the Potato Masher Basket 🙂 The soaps and cards are wonderful too, thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
We will spend Easter morning worshiping our risen Savior with our church family, and celebrating the victory Jesus accomplished with His death and resurrection. The rest of the day will be spent with family, friends, and good food.
Have a blessed Resurrection Day!
We will be having special services at church in the morning and then my daughter and her family are coming over for lunch. I read about your give-away over at Mountain Musings and am looking forward to perusing your blog. 🙂
Easter plans are sunrise service and lunch with friends!
Plan to spend a quiet day with my family. Plan on cooking some good Southern food. Later in the day we will visit our beloved parents/grandparents at the cemetary. We lost Daddy almost seven years ago and our dear Mother not even a year ago. We know they will be rejoicing in Heaven on this special day. We miss them and they will always be alive and loved in our hearts.
My two year old granddaughter will be spending Friday night with me. We will go to the annual Easter Egg Hunt at my church Saturday afternoon. It will be her first egg hunt. I will take her home Saturday night. Sunday morning I will go to church and spend the afternoon with a close friend.
I agree, the basket is cute!
I will go to church and praise God for the gift of his son Jesus. Then I will go home and spend time with my husband. Happy Easter everyone!
Im planning on lighting lots of candles and incense and creating a holy and sacred mood. There will be a great deal of silence and sacred music. Food will be secondary and simple but delicious. Eaten in near silence. Meditation on thankfulness will prevail.
After church, making ham dinner to share with our children.
We plan to have church service here in our home, followed by a potluck dinner (which is always quite delicious)!
Mountain Musings sent me to your site and I will follow you in my feed server.
🙂
I’ve got a busy Easter weekend planned. On Saturday, I will set up our Church Fellowship hall for breakfast to follow sunrise service. On Easter after the sunrise service, I will be hosting breakfast for our Church members.
Then I will attend Sunday School and Church and go home to cook some tasty BBQ for my husband. Thanks.
My husband and I plan to attend Easter services at church and have one of our daughters and her husband over for lunch afterwards. Happy Easter to you, too!
Resurrection Day morning will find me listening to a good message (my hubby is preaching) alongside my 8 children and my wonderful church family.
Spending time with my family!
We’ve been invited to a friend’s home for a meal, but I’m thinking of reversing the invitation and having them come here. We’ll see…but whichever, it should be a good time of getting together with friends.
Thanks so much! And I hope your Easter Sunday is a good one.
I will be meeting my family for a delicious BBQ ham dinner!
We are going to my mothers for a cookout and easter egg hunt.
I plan to attend sunrise service at 6:30. Take Lorali to an egg hunt at 8. Lunch with the family and the afternoon we will play outside with our new Easter chicks, Elouise and Grayson. Hope you have a great Easter too. Thanks!

We will be attending church and then enjoying family fellowship together for lunch. I hope to incorporate some of your recipes in our meal. I really enjoy your step by step instructions and the pictures make everything look so good. Thank you. God Bless.
On Saturday, we’ll be celebrating our granddaughter’s 5th birthday with Winnie the Pooh and friends.
We will be traveling to TN to see our daughter, son-in-law and their twin 10 year old sons. They moved last year and we do not see them as much as we used to. Cannot wait, grandma needs hugs!
My husband and I will be going to the sunrise service at our church, followed by breakfast immediately after the service. I’ll be taking biscuits and sausage gravy. Later in the morning we have our worship service. I’m thankful for this time that we can celebrate the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Usually our daughters, son-in laws, and grandson come for dinner on Easter, but this year we couldn’t work it out for Sunday, so they’ll be coming on Saturday, which is fine, I enjoy them coming any time.
Love checking out all your recipes and reading your articles. The basket is awesome! My Mother was a basket maker, but I’ve never seen one made with a potato masher. Hope you have a Blessed Easter!
I dont have any plans for Easter not sure if I even want to cook.
We usually get together with friends and their children and grandchildren following sunrise service. We have a wonderful late lunch (early supper) with everyone bringing something. It’s always fun and crazy with the kids on a high from the Peeps they’ve eaten, and trying to step around 4 dogs and 2 cats who are checking to make sure we haven’t dropped any tid bits for them.
What a beautiful giveaway! This Easter weekend I and my 2 sons will be celebrating with my family and friends the wonderful gift of life. I complete radiation therapy today for sarcoma and will be cancer-free! How blessed I am and to celebrate this Easter with our saviour to top it all off. Thanks be to God!
Good morning Steve! First let me say that I absolutely love reading your newsletters and trying your recipes! Our Easter plans will start on Saturday afternoon with coloring eggs with the kiddos, followed by a dessert of Strawberry Jello Cake. Sunday morning will start with sunrise service then home to hunt for eggs. We will finish out the day with a traditional meal of ham, potatoes, Taste of Southern’s Cracklin’ Bread and my first ever attempt at(hopefully successful) Lemon Chiffon Cake. Easter is an exciting time for me in the kitchen as it is when I switch from traditionally ‘cold weather desserts’ to more spring and summer appropriate desserts. I hope you have a blessed Easter as well. HE IS RISEN!
Blessings,
Tori Renshaw
PS. It is absolutely OK for you to say ‘cute.’ Especially when referring to little baskets and babies. 🙂
This year we’ll be going to the grandbabies instead of their coming here. This should be lots of fun even though I’m usually a big one for tradition.
I surely would like to win the pretty basket with the wonderful goodies. My love of baskets has always inspired my children to tell people that mama is “basket case”!
Everyone have lovely holiday.
Steve, I plan to go to Easter Sunrise Service with one of my daughters and her husband. All my children have been gone from home many years and I was pleased when one of them asked me to go with them this year. The basket giveaway is beautiful and I would be honored to be the lucky winner. I love all your recipes and have tried many.
Happy Easter
The basket is adorable and I love the clever use of the potato masher. I will be celebrating Easter with my church family and reflecting on God’s most precious sacrifice of His Son so that we may have eternal life. Blessings to everyone!
After church, my family will be enjoying a nice lunch that my husband (he does the meat sometimes) and I have prepared. I am sure that at least one recipe will come from the many I have collected from this wonderful site-probably at least the biscuits.
That basket is adorable and sure would be nice to add that to my basket collection.
Just hubby and myself so have no plans so will just be spending the day by ourselves at home.
Thank you for this wonderful giveaway opportunity
I will be playing the piano for church that Sunday. Then, hopefully the kids and grandkids that live locally will be joining us for hamburgers on the grill later on in the day! We have 9 kids with 6 married so connecting all those schedules is always a trick. 🙂
Blessings as we celebrate our Living Lord!!
I going to my sister-in-laws for dinner and bringing Chocolate Eclair Cake for dessert!
I will be spending our Easter weekend with my husband who normally works out of town much of the year, but he managed to come home this month! My kids are so excited! We will be preparing a traditional Polish Easter feast, complete with ham, salads and even a Babka! I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
We will be staying home to relax after church. Happy Easter to all!
