Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

A sweet and delicious buttercream frosting for all of your layer cakes, cupcakes, and sheet cakes. Easy to make.



1/2 cup Butter ( 1 stick )
1/2 cup solid Vegetable Shortening
3/4 cup powdered cocoa
4 cups sifted Confectioner’s Sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla Flavoring
35 Tablespoons of Evaporated milk, or as needed.


Place room temperature butter in large mixer bowl.
Add the room temperature shortening.
Cream together on Medium speed until nice and smooth.
Add sifted cocoa.
Add vanilla.
Mix again until fully combined.
Sift powdered sugar before using.
Gradually add the sifted sugar to the bowl, mixing after each addition.
Scrape down sides of bowl as needed. Mixture will be dry and crumbly looking.
Gradually add the milk until frosting is light and fluffy.
Spread frosting on cakes and decorate as desired.


Keep bowl covered with a damp cloth until ready to use.
Substitute cold strong black coffee for the milk to make a Mocha Frosting.
