Hi Steve
HAPPY FOURTH of JULY!
Just staying home in the air conditioning and eating Bar-B-Que pork and turkey thanks to a friend who cooked it last weekend. Sure is nice to know I don’t have to heat up the kitchen this year.
I’m looking forward to trying your hot dog chili soon.
Happy 4th of July Steve!
Thanks for giving us this opportunity to win this great prize.
I took a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway and it was beautiful. It was a lot cooler and refreshing in the higher altitudes.
I spent the 4th of July with my daughter, son-in-law and grandson. We began our day by going to the beach at 6:45 AM. Then we went home for naps and a cookout. In the evening we went to Downtown and sat in the rain waiting for fireworks. It was worth it and I had a great day!
My husband and I plan to stay home and relax. Have been looking forward to having a day at home!
Hi Steve!
You knew a giveaway would pull me out of the woodwork to comment! LOL! Today my daughter and her family arrives from Atlanta! 3 little boys 3 and under! Should be a fun, hectic time.
This morning (the 4th) I’m busy making your hotdog chili for our cookout tonight….been trying to find a good chili recipe. My aunt always had the “go-to” recipe for hotdog chili…but I’m hoping this recipe fits the bill.
Happy 4th to you!
We will be celebrating by relaxing and watching movies at home. We will also be having cheeseburgers and corn on the cob to round out our celebration.
I will be celebrating with fireworks and a birthday part with my relatives. Happy Birthday America!
Hi there ! Happy Independence Day all !! I will spend the 4 th celebrating my Independence and celebrating my Ancestors who have fought in every war in this US , as my family arrived to the United States in 1602 . I am a free single woman who works very hard and I am thankful for the opportunity to do so ! In fact I m working the 4th to obtain some overtime, and then after work I making your potatoe salad recipe that was posted, and a grilled cheese burger with your hot dog sauce on top ! cold watermelon after ! I will celebrate with my 2 chocolate labs and my 3 rescue horses to ensure their safety with all the fireworks going off :} (hence over time ,hint hint rescue horses ) To all our soldiers fighting and who have fought for our freedom God Bless and God speed
Just enjoy my family and relax! Watch fireworks on TV!
Hi Steve,
Family, food and fun!
God Bless you and God Bless America!
Betty
We are having game night and snacks at our church for some men in an overcomer group that we help with. Fireworks at 9 pm!!!
Howdy!
I will be taking my grand kids from Texas to put a flag on their grandfathers (my dad) grave. He was killed in Vietnam so… yeah they get the story of how freedom aint free- every year that they are here in Hot Alabama. Afterwards, it will be good food,(using some of your recipes too) good fun, fireworks that night! Be Safe !!
Hi Steve … Happy July 4th to you as well !! … We will be spending a quiet day as a family. I just bought an Insta Pot type cooker made by Pampered Chef. I love it already … set it and forget it !! Just what I needed. I am making homemade peach ice cream with fresh peaches. If it doesn’t rain, hubby will be grilling probably good old American dogs and I plan to make your chili topping recipe above for the first time. Again, THANK YOU so much for continuing this newsletter with all of your fantastic Southern ( YES , with a Capital S) recipes. We also plan on having fresh Corn on the cob( yes, we buy and husk it ourselves) and an old family recipe for potato salad. God Bless you Steve and GOD BLESS THE USA !!
I’ve become my parents! I love watching the celebration on PBS: the musical performance and the fireworks that follow! So that’s how I’ll be enjoying it.
I’ll be trying to keep the little bull moose out of my okra and swatting mosquitos. If the wildfires keep burning I’ll have on Particulate Mask on while I’m at it. If my husband is home from his fishing on the Yukon we might grill something.
My family and I have a long standing tradition of going to the Polynesian Resort Hotel at Disney World each July 4th. We have an early dinner, enjoy walking around the shops and grounds of the hotel, and watch the fireworks from the beach, looking across the lake towards the Magic Kingdom. Such fun!! 🙂
Stay inside out of heat.Eat sandwiches,watch t.v.
Will be having hamburgers and hot dogs and lots of other goodies, with all my children and grandchildren at my son’s house! Always so much fun when we can all get together. I am sweltering in our North Carolina heat too! Happy 4th Steve!
We are going to be having hot dogs and hamburgers with the amazing hotdog chili you just posted, Steve. But wait…the BIG news is that we will be taking these goodies (among other sides like potato salad, watermelon, beans, and key lime pie) to the home of our son and his wife who just brought their new firstborn baby girl from the hospital yesterday!! We are brand new grandparents and will be making sure she is comfy getting to know this beautiful world and protected from the loud fireworks 🙂 She is perfection straight from heaven and we can’t wait to celebrate this wonderful country of ours and this precious gift from God! Happy 4th of July from very hot (sweltering!) Georgia!
Gotta grill something on the grill. Usually hot dogs or hamburgers. Of course it’s topped with Cole Slaw. Thanks for the Hot Dog Chili recipe. So tasty. Better than mine. Here in Emporia Kansas people think I’m crazy about Cole Slaw on TOP of hot dogs & hamburgers. When I make it to take to a BBQ people were not sure. Had to tell them what to do with it Laugh. . .Then they ate it up & wondered why they never did this before. Really funny to me. Blessings to you Steve. Take care & thanks for the recipes. Keep up the good work.
Our family will be staying at home. Our pets do not care for the loud fireworks in our neighborhood. I hope you have a safe 4th of July. I enjoy reading your newsletters and recipes.
All the family will get together for a cookout and fun times with family and fireworks. God bless this wonderful country that we’re incredibly blessed to live in. Happy 4th! Always look forward to the newsletter and recipe each week. Take care!
My daughter and I will be going to a Hugh Jackman concert on the 3rd, so I’ll probably sleep in on the 4th.
We will be celebrating a quiet (hopefully)4th this year – holding our pups paw come evening when when all the fireworks and gunshots start going off. Our dog is terrified of this noise, so we just close all the windows, turn the fans on and enjoy the fireworks and entertainment on PBS (which don’t seem to bother her at all).
We will be at home, sitting under the shade tree and later burning some hot dogs on the the grill. They will be yummy of course, topped with homemade chili slaw mustard and onions. We are having apple pie and vanilla ice cream for dessert. I will be with the love of my life and counting all the blessings the good Lord has given us. Hope you have a special day too.
I am a bachelor, so nothing fancy for me; a couple of chili dogs (I might splurge and eat three!) and a glass of tea while sitting out on my porch and watching the fireworks going off at the nearby rodeo grounds. Bless America and all who love her and esp. those who stand guard against those who seek to destroy her.
I would come and get you so you could celebrate the 4th with me and my family but I am as old or older than you and can’t drive that far anymore. My son-in-law will grill something, probably steaks, my daughter will make Mac and cheese and deviled eggs, I will make southern potato salad and cut a watermelon, my granddaughter will eat. Hope you have a great day. God bless America!
Hi Steve,
Happy July 4th to you!!!
We have no plans for the holiday. We live in beautiful Coeur d’Alene, ID and they have a great fireworks show but we will pass again. My Husband does not like crowds and they are huge. We had a big Iron Man race yesterday, and since this is a summer tourist town only the brave locals attend.
Probably we will just BBQ a steak and watch the fireworks on TV.
I will be trying to stay cool but also grubbing down on bbq! Me & one of the neighbors join together to have a big bbq with all the fixins. We also turn on the water sprinkler and pull out the slip n slide for the kids to play with. By nightfall we enjoy the neighborhood fireworks competition and we can also view the downtown fireworks from our neighborhood.
My granddaughter & I plan to grill out on my patio. I have a big maple tree next to the patio that provides wonderful shade with a lovely swing under it. We love it.
A fellow North Carolinian here. We’ll be grilling, trying to stay cool and keeping the fly swatter handy (I hate flies in my house).
Steve, the Fourth has always been one of our favorite days! My father would buy lots of fireworks and we would either have people over or have a picnic and at dusk set off the fireworks! Now we carry on the tradition. Where I live we are allowed to set them off so we plan to carry on the tradition and bbq and set off some fireworks. I have also made sure my lawn is not brown…It can go back to summer brown on the fifth. We, yes we in the other Washington, have had droughts the last several summers and much higher temp.
I love the Fourth!
Hey Steve,
I always enjoy your your newsletter and recipes every Monday. I hope you
continue to improve with that awful vertigo problem. I will be celebrating the 4TH with a neighborhood parade and cookout. Then we will come home and make some homemade banana ice cream.YUM!!! I wish for
you a great holiday and a safe healthy one as well!
God Bless America!!
My husband and I will start off with a quiet day. Later in the afternoon we plan to grill a couple of steaks. We will probably have a nice baked potato and corn on the cob followed by watermelon or cantaloupe. Later we will head over to the beach at Emerald Isle for fireworks. The shoot them off at the end of the pier. It is so lovely with them reflecting off the ocean. This year will be bittersweet. We lost Billy’s uncle last year and it was his house we always went to for the 4th. His niece has rented the house for the week and the celebration will also celebrate his life. I know he will be having a bigger celebration this year in heaven. Hope you have a blessed day Steve. Always enjoy your newsletter. The recipes bring back such fond memories. God bless!
We are doing nothing much. Weather will be hot. A good chance of rain so indoors it will be. Plus, indoors means no mosquitoes. Our meal will be whatever. We have nothing special planned except for corn on the cob. That is a must! Happy Independence Day to everyone!
Hello Steve, always a pleasure to read your weekly updates! Thanks for the chili recipe!
My trainer & his brother grew up in Louisiana. They have a food truck & will be grilling burgers & dogs for the folks who don’t appreciate Cajun cuisine. I’ll be enjoying their jambalaya & anything else they prepare from their Creole training!
We will be having our first 4th of July with our 2 nieces that we are going to foster. They will be here Wednesday! 🙂 Hopefully we will have hamburgers and all the fixings. Any maybe some homemade ice cream!
A nice quiet day with hubby, chickens, rabbit and dog, maybe a nice meal of grilled swordfish! A real 4th of July treat!
I plan to take my Granddaughter to the 4th of July parade in Carthage, have a cookout with hotdogs, & red white and blue jello (something that requires no cooking and I can’t mess up) and share some special Snickers that someone gifted to me. Hopefully we can find some fireworks close by and end the night as you say with a bang.
Hi Steve!
Gary will be smoking a tri-tip again while I make Julia Child’s Pork and Beans in my multi-cooker. Fun recipe that is probably the first Instant Pot recipe ever written BEFORE an Instant Pot even existed. Now you know me, I’m old and set in my ways, so the beans will be cooked without pressure cooking them for 10 minutes. We will round out the meal with a fresh melon and fruit salad while we watch 1776 on TCM. Recommend that movie highly to anyone who loves a good historical musical. One of my favorites along with Yankee Doodle Dandy, which TCM traditionally airs on July 4th.
Hope you have a great Fourth. Get better soon! You’re always in our prayers.
Spending the 4th with my Church family. We will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers along with covered side dishes. Since we don’t have any family close by this cookout is special to us.
I look forward to your Newsletter and recipes each week. Thanks.
Spending a quiet day at home with my husband and son. Thinking about making an In N Out burger copy cat recipe that I saw online.
Looking forward to having lunch at a popular BBQ restaurant with my husband and good friends. Have already started celebrating on Sunday evening by going to a wonderful First Baptist Church program that honors the troops and celebrates the freedoms that we enjoy. The local baseball team plans to have special fireworks after the game on Wednesday evening, so it will be hot, but it is July. Happy 4th to you!
with family, watching boat parade (yes, we live on a lake)
we will eat fried chicken,pimiento/cheese sandwiches and watermelon.
I hate to admit this, but we have a large grill-that has been neatly covered and unused for the past 9 Summers-This July 4th we are finally going to dust that baby off and use it-My 2 grown children are confident that they can grill a chicken-they went to wiki how? Traditional potato salad corn on cob watermelon and a blueberry pie will be included-Maybe we should find out if Kentucky Fried is open (just in case!). Our street has been roped off for construction so we have purchased BIG fireworks for afterwards-something else we don’t normally do! Immigrants from Nigeria just moved in across the street-so we will have them experience their first 4Th the American way with us! We have already warned them about the noises expected this month-so they will not be alarmed-do not want them to think they are hearing guns or bombs! It will be a Memorable Day for all of us. Thanks for asking and thank you for your blog. Recipes take me home!
Quiet day at home. Put out the flag. Cook ribs and fixin’s. Watch concert and fireworks on TV – air conditioning, no mosquitoes. God Bless America!
My wife and I will most likely grill some burgers and enjoy each others company. Nearly all family lives out of town or out of state.
Thank you for asking, Steve.
July 4 and liberties we enjoy!!! The county library bookmobile comes to our building this Tuesday, so I will trade books, finish reading a book started in the first half of this year, and celebrate with the hot dog chili posted with a bratwurst instead of a hot dog, straight from a locally sourced farm and dairy. I have the bratwurst in stock instead of a hot dog.
Next, a quick visit to the neighbors around fireworks time. Then, an online concert feed from Pennsylvania with whoever is around and interested in watching. For me, music is a central part of July 4.
Quiet, yet immensely enjoyable and very celebratory! After all, how many nations allow us to read so many different books.
Happy to say that this year we will be celebrating the 4th and my birthday on the 6th. Everyone gathering at my house for an all-day affair on the 4th. This year we are having a “Taste of Southern” 4th. Everyone must bring a dish from your recipes. We are starting off with brunch and run through the fireworks. On the menu: Sausage & Biscuits; BBQ Chicken Wings; Chili Hot Dogs; Sloppy Joes; everybody’s favorite Shrimp Po’ Boys; Cole slaw; Southern Potato Salad; Roast Corn; Pickled Green Tomatoes; Roasted Vegetables; Cracklin’ Bread; and for dessert: Strawberry Cobbler and Cherry Pie. (Okay, ya got me, I am buying the ice cream.) Can’t wait. Happy Independence Day, everyone!
My husband and I are spending a quiet Independence Day at home watching “John Adams” on tv, eating traditional July 4th fare, and thanking God we live in this country.
Just a quiet day with family, having a cookout but we’ll probably eat indoors due to the heat. Hope you have a great holiday. God Bless.
Hello Steve!
Happy 4th of July to you also!
We are grilling something fabulous on the grill having my mama’s potato salad & multi bean casserole.
It will be just the two of us, hubby has to work Friday 😉
Have a blessed week!
I will be working in El Paso Texas, but I’m sure my wife will keep me updated with pictures from our home beach in good old North Carolina.
It will be a quiet 4th for us. I’m sure I will do some genealogy and think about my ancestors who fought to make this country and the others who have fought for and against it. I will think of all the different nationalities that make up my wonderful blended melted candy of a family, 3 children, a son-in-law, daughter-in-law, 8 grandchildren, 1 great-grand child, and 1 future grandson in law and step great granddaughter. God has richly blessed this country and I will think a lot about this too. And maybe eat a Hot Dog!
My husband and I will be going to our son’s home to have hot dogs and hamburgers with him and his family.
Happy July 4th – God Bless America.
My plans are to attend the July 4th Snow Camp, NC parade. It’s a small town parade where almost everybody knows everybody else. Children’s activities and games follow with music, food, and crafts. It is a nice event but can be very hot with the weather. Thanks so much for the recipes and the precise details and pictures for making them.
Hello Steve! With adult children having other plans for the 4th of July, l plan to order great barbecue and fixings from my favorite restaurant and binge watch my favorite black and white TV Westerns. Cheyenne, Wyatt Earp, Tales of Wells Fargo, Trackdown, Annie Oakley and Laramie. Ummm yes! Hope you enjoy yourself!
Eeee-Yaah.
It’s just me and my cat, Pepsi. I always have the flag at my house and am proud of it. I have a couple of smoked sausages in the freezer and can make potato salad if the spirit moves me.
With family and good food.
I will be cleaning the memorial for our veterans and first responders. Our community will install flagpoles and whenever an American Flag is tattered we replace it free. The “Flag Patrol” has various activities during the year to raise money for the flags. We have 240+ homes in the community and hoping to have a flagpole in every yard. That is the “goal”. Happy Fourth of July and let’s all come together to remember those that make this country great !!!
My family hasn’t discussed plans yet. If we do celebrate, it will likely be a quiet get together. I would love to try making your hot dog chili. It sounds really good!
We are planning a cookout with family for the 4th.
Hot dogs, burgers and chicken are on the menu. Also I will try making your hot dog chili.
Love your recipes! Look forward every week to see what’s cooking! Take care and hope you have a happy 4th.
My husband and I are empty nesters, so we will have a quiet meal at home and head out to the small town fireworks show in Jay, Florida. It’s a little town, but MIGHTY on fireworks. It’s just nice to breathe a little bit and enjoy each other.
We are flying to Vienna, Austria, for a river cruise. Since I am a nervous flyer, won ‘t really celebrate until we land safely in Vienna. LOL
Used to run (slowly) the Peachtree Road Race. My first time was the 25th anniversary, the 4th is the 50th. Will watch on TV. Supposed to be really hot and record crowd expected, 60,000 or so.
Hope all will be safe and enjoy celebrating our nation’s birthday.
Hi Steve,
For the last 15 years I have hosted a neighborhood party with lots of good food-fried chicken, potato salad, deviled eggs, all kinds of dips and sweet desserts. I will do the same this year. It has become a tradition and everyone has a wonderful time. Have a blessed week.
Debbie
Hi Steve!
I plan on spending my fourth of July at home on my grill, probably grilling chicken, hot dogs and hamburgers. I hate to waste a good charcoal fire so I cook whatever I find on sale. I’ll invite friends and neighbors over. I will also have corn on the cob and potato salad. I was going to make a cake but if it’s going to be hot, I think I’ll have watermelon for dessert. I love your sight and all your recipes, especially the one for Pulled Pork BBQ in the oven! I hope that you are blessed with good health and happiness. God Bless America!
