Today, I discovered that Country Musics very own Charlie Daniels is on Twitter. Charlie grew up around these parts and use to perform on WWGP Radio, the station that I work for. I’m told it was the first station he played on. A couple of years ago, he stopped by the station for a brief visit and I had the great pleasure of getting to meet him.
We are always quick to bragg about the fact that THE Country Music Legend – Charlie Daniels, got his start on our station. It’s a big part of the stations history and we’re extremely proud of it. He’s a great man and was overly nice to us all, taking time for photos and time for an on-air interview. I wasn’t hosting the show that day but did get in the studio to take some pictures. Perhaps I can post them later.
I started Following Charlie today on Twitter and decided to send him a quick Tweet just to say hello, with greetings from our home town and our station. He graciously replied. I also attempted to Tweet the photo above to him, because I thought he would recognize one or two of the guys in the picture. I wasn’t able to Tweet it so I created this post on Taste of Southern instead. The fellow on the left is the late brother of my sister-in law Margaret, my brothers wife. I’m pretty sure Mr. Daniels might know the other one.
The man on the left is Ted Phillips. That’s Charlie Daniels on the right. Charlie and my sister-in-laws family were all neighbors, growing up in the community of Gulf, North Carolina. It’s just a few miles up the road from us.
I exchanged several Tweets with him today. He did take a look at the photo here on TOS and thanked me for sharing it with him. That’s right….THE Charlie Daniels visited Taste of Southern.com. How cool is that? I told you….he’s one more NICE guy.
I invite you to visit his website at – www.charliedaniels.com and check him out on Twitter as well. Thanks for the chat Charlie.
