Canning Season

Summer is canning season here in the South.  Time to wash up the jars, pick some fresh fruit and vegetables and drag out the canning pot.  We’ve already canned several items this year.  I must admit, here at Taste of Southern, we specialize in “small batches.”   And, it seems we kind of favor the jams, jellies and preserves over the beans and other vegetables.  Sorry, I just can’t help it.

What have you canned or stored away in the freezer thus far?  We’d love to hear about your efforts this year.  Have you just been thinking about it but never got up enough nerve to actually try?  If that’s the case, please check out our Canning and Freezing section here on Taste of Southern.  With our step-by-step photo illustrated recipes, we’ll do all we can to help you conquer those fears and start canning…just like grandma use to do.

I hope you’ve had fun with your canning.  I know it can be lots of work, especially if you’re putting up items to feed the family in the year ahead but the results make it all worthwhile.
